Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter offers compassion and understanding to owners who wish to surrender their pets. If you have exhausted all efforts to rehome the pet, please use our form below to inquire about the possibility of surrendering your pet. The cost to surrender is $500 per pet. If your animal has bitten or broken skin in the last 6 months, please let us know.
We are currently receiving a large number of surrender requests. A member of our team will contact you within 7 to 14 days to discuss the best options for your pet. Please wait for our call. This is important. Though we know you may feel you have to surrender your pet right away, we work very hard to ensure that we have the time, space and resources before they come in. Bringing your pet in without an appointment can result in stress for your pet and may even negatively affect his or her chances of being placed.
Turning in a Stray
Our shelter is often filled to capacity with surrendered cats and kittens during the summer months. Bringing in a stray cat may not be in his/her best interest if the cat appears healthy and thriving in the community. If you have found a stray dog, please contact the animal control office in your town for the next steps.
Surrender Prevention Options
Our goal is to work with pet owners, empowering them to take an active role in determining the best outcome for their pets. Not every pet is a good candidate for entering the shelter. We encourage all pet owners to consider other options for help or private rehoming prior to being evaluated to enter the shelter.
Placement Options
No one is in a better position to find your pet a new home than you are. Before applying to surrender your pet, we recommend you attempt to find him or her a new home yourself using websites like Home To Home.
