It’s almost time to Clear The Shelters! This year, Mt Pleasant Animal Shelter will participate in NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters 2021 pet adoption campaign. Our goal is to get many of our shelter pets into their forever homes during this month-long event. Clear The Shelters will take place from August 23 to September 19.

This is the seventh consecutive year that NBC and Telemundo-owned stations will present their popular pet adoption campaign to communities nationwide in partnership with affiliate stations and shelters/rescues. Since 2015, NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters campaign has helped more than half a million pets find new homes. Hill’s Pet Nutrition is the national sponsor for the Clear The Shelters campaign this year. Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter is pleased to participate in the movement this year.

Each week, Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter will feature Clear The Shelters adoption prices. Adopters can spin a wheel to determine discounts. Some lucky spinners will be able to name their own adoption fee!

Week One (August 23 – August 29) Clear the Dogs: Adopt an adult dog (9 months and up) and spin the wheel to determine your adoption price.

Week Two (August 30 – September 5) Clear the Cats: Adopt an adult cat (9 months and up) and spin the wheel to determine your adoption price.

Week Three (September 6 – September 12) Clear the Seniors: Adopt a senior cat or dog. (11 years and up) Donate a bottle of bleach and pay a $10 adoption fee.

Week Four (September 13 – September 19) Clear the Animals: In our final week, adopt any animal (not including kittens or puppies). Donate kitty litter for the opportunity to name your adoption price ($10+).

Ways you can participate in Clear The Shelters:

  1. The ASPCA reports that 6.5 million animals enter shelters every year, and about 1.5 million are euthanized. Adopting a shelter pet is not only life-changing but also lifesaving!
  2. Your support allows us to continue our mission. Donations are vital to the operations of the shelter and are a good choice for those that are not able to adopt. Every dollar donated makes a difference. This year’s Clear The Shelterswill feature online donations through Greater Good Charities. Those interested in donating to Mt Pleasant Animal Shelter can visit the Greater Good Charities’ donation site during the campaign at ClearTheShelters.com, or visit njshelter.org.
  3. Not ready to adopt? One important way to get animals out of the shelters is to get them into foster homes. Research has shown that animals will thrive in a home environment, rather than in the shelter. Animals that come to the shelter may not be ready for adoption. Foster caregivers provide the love and support our animals need while they wait to find their forever homes. There are opportunities to provide care for different needs such as bottle babies, puppies, kittens, pregnant mothers, and more. Mt Pleasant Animal Shelter will support its fosters throughout the process by providing supplies, resources, medical care, and guidance on how to care for our shelter pet.
  4. Mt Pleasant Animal Shelter relies on the kindness of its volunteer base to assist in daily activities both inside and outside the shelter. Volunteering your time and talent is not only beneficial to you as an individual, but it also makes a great impact at the shelter.
    1. Photograph our shelter pets. Those who have experience in photography can make a huge difference in our shelter pets finding a forever home. Photos really make an impact on potential adopters viewing Petfinder profiles.
    2. Walk our shelter dogs. This provides our dogs with both exercise and socialization. It is a great way for the pups to get out of the shelter at least for a little while.
    3. Socialize our shelter cats. Socialization familiarizes our cats with human interaction and better prepares them for their eventual forever home.
    4. Share our social media content. This is a quick and easy way to help our homeless pets!
